Liquid chalk
Chalk suspended in a fast-drying alcohol base that leaves a thin, long-lasting layer on the hands.
Liquid chalk is powdered climbing chalk mixed into an alcohol based carrier, sold in a squeeze bottle rather than a loose bag. Rubbing a small amount into the hands lets the alcohol evaporate quickly, leaving behind a base layer of chalk that clings to the skin better than powder alone.
Because the alcohol dries out natural oils, many climbers use liquid chalk as a base coat at the start of a session and switch to a chalk bag with loose powder for top ups during climbing. It also produces less airborne chalk dust, which some climbing gyms specifically require or encourage for indoor air quality.
Frequent use can dry out skin over time, so climbers with sensitive skin sometimes look for formulas with added moisturizing ingredients or scale back how often they apply it. Liquid chalk is also a convenient way to travel with chalk without spilling loose powder inside a bag, since the bottle seals shut between uses.
