# Best Chalk Bags and Chalk Buckets for the Gym Source: https://climbingnest.com/best/best-gym-chalk-bags-and-totes Updated: 2026-09-15 Publisher: Climbing Nest. Our score is an editorial rating out of 10 (fit 35%, features 25%, build 20%, value 20%), not a customer rating. Method: https://climbingnest.com/how-we-research#our-score A chalk bag is simple gear, but the details decide whether your car and gym bag end up dusted white. For gym use the choice splits between waist bags for route climbing and stand-alone buckets for bouldering. Closures range from drawcords to roll-tops with buckles, and they are not equally chalk-proof. Rim stiffness, brush slots, and whether a bucket stands upright on the mat all shape daily convenience more than looks do. We judged closure security first, then hand feel, stability, and pockets that actually hold a phone, brush, and tape. Boulderers who live at the gym should go straight to a bucket with a genuinely sealed closure. Rope climbers want a mid-size waist bag with a fleece lining and a stable belt. If you carry chalk in a shared bag or commute by transit, a roll-top closure is worth the small premium - one avoided spill pays for it. ## Picks ### 1.
