Tape is the cheapest item in your pack and the one you miss most when it is missing. Climbers use it for two different jobs - protecting skin from flappers, splits, and crack abrasion, and supporting tweaked finger pulleys - and those jobs want different tape. Adhesion under sweat, rigidity, width, and clean tearing vary a lot between brands, and generic sports tape from the pharmacy often gives up on the first sweaty pitch.

We looked for stickiness on chalked skin, support that survives a full session, and tape that tears cleanly by hand. Crack climbers and heavy gym users should buy rigid, wide rolls in bulk; anyone taping fingers wants narrower widths that wrap cleanly. A caution on support taping: tape can reduce load on a healing pulley, but it does not make an injured finger safe to pull hard on. If a finger needs tape to climb, it probably needs rest more.

### 5. 8BPLUS Finger Tape for Climbing & Sports | Printed Athletic Finger Tape for Rock Climbing, Bouldering & BJJ | Tear-by-Hand Cotton Sports Tape 1.5in x 33ft (Blue with Print)

Our score: 7.4/10 (Fit for the job 8/10 · Features and specs 7/10 · Build and materials 7/10 · Value 7/10)

8BPLUS finger tape is a 1.5 inch by 33 foot roll of printed 100% cotton athletic tape with zigzag edges. It tears by hand into narrow strips for fingers, or stays wide for hands and wrists.

Pros:
- Zigzag edges let you tear custom widths and lengths by hand, so one wide roll covers finger wraps and hand taping.
- Listed as 100% cotton and plastic-free, with an adhesive pattern that leaves small pores for sweat to escape.
- The 1.5 inch width works for the back of the hand or a wrist as well as for fingers once it is torn down.

Cons:
- It is a single roll, so it holds less tape than the multi-roll packs elsewhere in this guide.
- At 1.5 inches wide, each finger wrap means tearing a strip down first, which is slower than using a narrow roll.

Pros:
- The narrow 0.5 inch width is sized for fingertips and single finger joints, with no need to trim down a wider roll.
- The listing describes an adhesive made to stay put through sweat, chalk and repeated gripping.
- Sold as a single low-cost roll, so it is easy to add one to a chalk bag pocket and see if the width suits you.

Cons:
- One 10 yard roll is a small supply next to the multi-roll tins in this guide, so regular tapers will reorder often.
